چکیده

In this paper, we propose a power effective bus encoding scheme which can minimize crosstalk problems as well as bus transitions effectively. In current submicron technology, minimizing propagation delay and power consumption on buses is one of the most important design objectives in the field of System-on-Chip (SoC) design. Crosstalk between adjacent wires on bus may create significant propagation delay. Elimination or minimization of such faults is crucial not only for the system performance, but also for the reliability of SoC designs. Experimental results show that our proposed encoding technique can save dynamic power by up to 23.3% for 4bit buses, while completely removing crosstalk delay.

A Bus Encoding Scheme to Reduce Power Consuming Signal Transitions

As the technology scales down, the reduced spacing between the individual wires within a bus results in increased crosstalk. This increases power dissipation particularly in wide data buses. We propose an efficient encoding scheme that significantly reduces the number of correlated switching (coupling transitions) as well as self-transitions among the wires in the data busses. The proposed sche...

A Bus Encoding Method for Crosstalk and Power Reduction in RC Coupled VLSI Interconnects

The performance factors such as propagation delay, power dissipation and crosstalk in RC modelled interconnects are major design issues for the System on-chip (SoC) designs in current Deep Submicron (DSM) era. The crosstalk effect is a consequence of coupling and switching activities that is encountered when there is a transition as compared to previous state of wire and or when there are trans...

A Novel Multiply-Accumulator Unit Bus Encoding Architecture for Image Processing Applications

In the CMOS circuit power dissipation is a major concern for VLSI functional units. With shrinking feature size, increased frequency and power dissipation on the data bus have become the most important factor compared to other parts of the functional units. One of the most important functional units in any processor is the Multiply-Accumulator unit (MAC). The current work focuses on the develop...

Efficient Crosstalk Reduction Technique for Data Bus

Crosstalk has become the great challenge to the design community in Deep-submicron (DSM) and Very Deepsubmicron (VDSM) technologies. As the portion of silicon area for interconnects and buses is dominating, crosstalk effect also dominates in deciding the reliability and performance of the SoCs and many types of processors. These interconnect and buses are prone to errors due to crosstalk. The m...

Temporal Redundancy Based Encoding Technique for Peak Power and Delay Reduction of On-Chip Buses

Power consumption and delay are two of the most important constraints in current-day on-chip bus design. The two major sources of dynamic power dissipation on a bus are the self capacitance and the coupling capacitance. As technology scales, the interconnect resistance increases due to shrinking wire-width. At the same time, spacing between the interconnects decreases resulting in an increase i...
